Intaglio & Etching

Resist covers the plate.

The zinc or copper plate is carved and scraped by etching tools. Apply acid and the scraped area is eaten by acid.

Ink is pushed into the inscribed or eaten lines, the surface ink is wiped with a starched cloth, and the remaining ink prints when moist paper is pressed against it - through a tight printing press.
