Balsa, Basswood & Woodburners
Balsa and basswoods are lightweight and easy to carve and sand, making them the correct wood for architectural models and crafts.
Balsa is lighter than bass but a little stiffer. It is so light that model airplane gliders made from balsa can actually fly. Hobbyists use balsa and bass because the wood is so easy to carve, cut, glue, and manipulate.
A chunk of bass also makes good porch whittling.
